Sixth Sense by Hexagon

Hexagon is a global leader in digital reality solutions, combining sensor, software and autonomous technologies. Hexagon technologies are used globally to manufacture 90% of all aircraft, 85% of all smart phones, 75% of all automobiles. Its Manufacturing Intelligence division was keen to understand how it could better engage with the start-up landscape and find an avenue to bring new ideas into the business.

H Catalyst worked with Hexagon to understand their challenges, creating the vision and strategy for open innovation across their Manufacturing Intelligence Division. Designing, building and executing a global open innovation platform issuing bi-annual challenges to scaling start-ups to work with Hexagon on proofs of technology and value. In return, the start-ups gain access to Hexagon’s global markets, customers and potential investment.

The first challenge proved to be a huge success – with over 150 applications, 13 companies pitched to take part in the programme and 7 eventually joined as the first cohort. Winners RIIICO, SmartParts and runner up Praemo are now working closely with Hexagon – integrating their technologies into the Hexagon ecosystem and preparing to scale their propositions through the global network.

We partnered with Seven Hills to deliver the project, working together to develop the brand vision and marketing strategy for Sixth Sense before bringing it to the market.

The success of the inaugural challenge has led to conversations to broaden Sixth Sense beyond the Manufacturing Intelligence Division – creating a Programme that works across the whole of Hexagon. It also is a key pillar in Hexagon’s outside-/in strategy to create more efficient, sustainable and autonomous manufacturing that can positively regenerate the world.
